The Song of the Phoenix

Liz came from a small town.

Somewhere in the midwest.
She decided to follow her dreams.
And to find out what was best.
Mama cried when Liz told her
 that Nashville
was the place to be.
Mama always thought she’d stay close
near the family.
(Chorus)
When your dreams take you
to soaring heights, you see.
Rhythm or reason doesn’t matter.
You’re young as you can be.
You are a phoenix. You’ll find a way of sailing high.
Even if you fall, you will rise back to the sky.
It took a while to make it big. She worked at the five and dime..
Worked on her music before and after every shift.
Dreams of singing on the Opry stage.
Open mic at the Blue Bell, she was discovered and sang her songs.
Record labels and some hit songs eventually came along.
(Chorus)
Fame and fortune are alright. It doesn’t make up for missing home.
Even if you got money, you still go home alone.
She took a bus back to Nebraska to see her mama once again.
Liz held her tight in her arms. This is what she said.
(chorus)
