The Cleft of The Rock Kat had trusted one of her friends. She was a leader at the camp Kat went to. She thought it would be the right decision. Her friend had told her to jump from one side of the creek to the other side. She did not feel comfortable with this decision. Her friend said: “Jump!” I jump across the creek and I don’t fall.” Kat looked at the creek. It was in the mountains. The waters were flowing rapidly. She knew it might not be the right decision. However, she attempted to jump anyway. The rocks were slip- pery and as she jumped, and as her foot touched the other side. she slipped on one of the rocks and started going down the creek. She was taken down by the current. She was headed backwards in the wrong direction. There was nothing to grab on to. She looked in the direction she was going. It was towards a steep cliff where there was a waterfall. She felt pakic and fear. She kept moving closer and closer to the waterfall. She started praying: “Jesus help me!” As she was moving down- wards, she saw a rock on the side she could grab a hold of. She was able to hold on to the cleft of the rock. She stayed there to catch her breath. She wondered what she would do now. She did not want to go down. She did not know how to get back where she was. She heard her friend. Her friend helped lift Kat up out of the creek. She was able to be safe on dry land. Kat started thinking about choices. When you go against what you feel is right, things don’t always work out. However, when you cling to the “cleft of the rock” you can make it, no matter where you are or what circumstance you are in. She has had other experiences through her life where she had to make tough choices. However, she has learned, when there seems no way, she calls. on the God who sees beyond the impossible. She still holds on to the cleft of the rock. Somehow, things have a way of working out through impossible odds.
