Second Supper Chapter Four
Reggie and Katie prayed for their children and for Second Sunday. They asked their church leaders to pray for them. They were claiming scriptures regarding children being a heritage from the lord. Hearts of stone become hearts of flesh. Turn the hearts of the children to the parents. Turn the hearts of the parents to their young. Turn the hearts of the people towards each other. Turn the hearts of the people to the lord. Many prayers and scriptures were poured out like incense before the lord. God heard their prayers and started speaking to David and Carol. Reggie and Katie prayed as God prepared the background for his miracle.
On Second Sunday, Carol arrived first. She brought tacos, salsa, salad, and chips. David came with his favorite dessert and Chicken parmesan. Katie had set the table with glasses, plates, spoons, forks, and knives. Glasses were filled with iced tea. Katie saw how healthy her children were and thanked God. Carol looked distressed and confused. Dad, why did you call us here? Mom seems the same, and she is not in the hospital. This better be good!
David arrived perplexed as well. Dad said you would not believe what we have gone through. God knows! Please sit down. Please tell me why you asked us to cook. I don’t understand.
Mom and I love you. We care about you. I don’t think you realize that we need you too. We are both getting older, and mom has not been well. Please keep in mind that I will talk about this after supper. Please put the dishes on the table and sit down.
David said God has been speaking to me. I realize it has been a long time since I have seen you, but there are things about when I was young that have affected my life, and I blame mom for them. If she were a better mother, none of this would have happened.
Carol agreed. Mom could have been a better mother. I could have done more with my life if it hadn’t been for mom. Why should I care if she is sick? I only came because of you.
Dad started getting angry but tried to keep it in. You are an adult now. You are in charge of yourself and your lives. Not mom. You are holding down blessings because of your unforgiveness and bitterness. Your choices to be angry and bitter have affected your lives. However, it has affected our lives as well. Let’s have a prayer together like we did when you were young. God, you have brought us to this table once again.
Please, God, forgives us for the things we have done wrong. Take away any bitterness and hatred from this room. Let your love be added as an extra element of this second supper. Please forgive me for the times I failed.
Then Katie prayed. Thank you, God, for bringing my children here. God, you have already forgiven me, and I ask forgiveness of my children for anything I have done to hurt them. God, you know that I love them. Katie started sobbing uncontrollably. I love them, God!
Then, Carol prayed. God, please forgive me for my bitterness and anger. I blamed mom and expected her to be perfect. Please forgive me for hurting her and not moving forward with my life. Please forgive me. Carol started crying.
David started praying. I don’t know what you are doing, but I pray you can forgive me for hurting mom. I blamed her for all the things she could have done. My heart was so angry that I everything that she had said or done I accused her. Please forgive me.
Dad ended the prayer. Thank you, God, for this second supper. Thank you for bringing us together. We love you, and thank you. May your blessings flow and form a covenant between all of us. Please bless this food. Amen. Carol and David got up from the table—tears in their eyes. Everyone felt cleansed and burdens lifted at that second supper.
Dad said, here is my announcement. We have been saving our money to get four tickets to Hawaii. What date is good for you?
David and Carol were excited. Carol said I would check my calendar. David gave a possible date but said he would get back to them. Hugs and love filled the room. Katie said I would check with my doctor. I have been under my doctor’s care because of some physical problems. Hopefully, we can plan this soon. I love you so much. Katie started crying again, and Carol hugged her. Dad said, Let’s eat!
They sat at the table and enjoyed the food presented by their children. It was a new supper with a possibility of more. Katie looked up to heaven and thanked God for hearing her prayers. Reggie finally saw Katie smile. She had the most beautiful smile. Everything will be alright now that God is at the head of the table. Katie and I are happy. Best of all, my children are sharing a second supper with us.
