Kate was expecting an important package to be delivered. She had called the Flagstaff Antique Company and was advised that today she would receive the antique music box that had been ordered. Kate had saved and scrimped for the music box. It was the most beautiful music box in the catalog. The box had two dancers in formal attire in a ballroom setting. The antique box was finally going to be hers.

Patiently, Kate waited for the mailman. Finally, the mail truck drove up. The mailman put the mail in the mailbox and drove away. Kate curiously went to the mailbox to see what had been delivered. Alas, it was just bills in the box.. Kate called the Flagstaff Antique Company and said that she had not received her package.

The Customer Service Representative said, “The box was delivered to 10 Shady Lane in Fairfield, CA. Kate was frustrated at this point and said, “That was my old address! I live at 15 Tommy Circle in Fairfield, CA.”

The representative apologized and said that they would deliver another box right away. Kate decided to go back to her old address and see if she could retrieve her missing antique box.

Kate drove to 10 Shady Lane and found an older couple sitting on the front porch. A song was being played. The older gentleman took the woman’s hand and they began to dance. Kate realized that it was the song from the music box and was surprised that the box had been opened.

The couple was startled when Kate walked up to the front porch. They introduced themselves as James and June Lockley. June looked at James as Kate talked about the music box.

James, who was a gentleman in his late 80’s, spoke up. “June and I can’t see very well and we thought the box was for us. The song was one that we danced to when we were young. It was a song from “South Pacific.” The first dance we shared was to “Some Enchanted Evening.”

Kate asked if she could sit down and explained this is where she used to live. She advised that the music box was delivered here by mistake.” The couple were embarrassed and handled Kate the music box.

June asked, “Can we play the music box one more time for old time sake?” Kate said, “Yes.” June smiled as she looked at her husband. Kate thought, “June must be in her late 80’s as well. They are both doing well for their age.”

James wound up the music box and said to his sweetheart, “One more dance.” James took June in his arms and danced the foxtrot.” Afterward, Kate was invited to have some cookies and some Chamomile Tea. Kate gratefully accepted and chatted with the couple around their kitchen table.

Kate said to herself, “Today started with waiting for a box. It ended with a song, a dance, and a new friendship.”
